Check Out

(for Gaynor Larkin )

Gaynor enters through the service door

Enlightened,

Glowing.

Like she's arrived in paradise

Instead of Cross Hands

SA14 6NA

Gaynor saunters down the aisles

Unhurried,

Calm.

Like she's walking

Under invisible

Eastern skies.

She settles in the chair,

Takes a slow breath

And suddenly

Her hand is a blur

Skimming over

The tins and boxes

Like a humming bird!

When she's done

She looks up,

Surveys the startled trolley line

With a quiet smile

Like a Buddha.

Nothing matters.

The length of this queue

Doesn't matter because

Probably

In another life,

It'll come back

Shorter…
