In Memory of Jan Palach 1969.

(Burnt himself to death as a protest against the Soviet invasion in Czechslovakia.)

The morning found you

Charred

And broken

So they took your picture

And some words you’d spoken

Your picture

They pricked

Like a crucified bird,

But your voice

Was so loud

That nobody heard

29th July 1969
